Ensuring equal access to education is a key pillar of inclusive development in India. To support this vision, the Government of India, through the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), has launched the Central Sector Umbrella Scheme “Scholarships For Students
with Disabilities 2025-26″. This National Scholarship Scheme aims to financially assist eligible students from Class IX to postgraduate levels—including specialized schemes for coaching and overseas studies.

National Scholarships for Students with disabilities – Component

The scheme includes six major components designed to support students with disabilities from school to higher education and competitive exam preparation:

• Post-Matric Scholarship
• Top Class Education Scheme
• National Overseas Scholarships
• National Fellowships for PwD
• Free Coaching Initiative

Eligibility Criteria for National Scholarships for Students with disabilities 2025-26

To be eligible for National Scholarship for Students with Disabilities 2025-26, the students must meet the following the criteria.

• Indian citizens with benchmark disabilities (≥40%)
• Possess a valid disability certificate or UDID card
• Have parental income below:
  • ₹2.5 lakh/year for Pre & Post Matric
  • ₹8 lakh/year for Top Class & Coaching schemes
• Be enrolled in a recognized institution
• Maximum two children with disabilities per family eligible (twins exempted).
• Not be availing any other scholarship concurrently

Benefits of Each Scholarship for Students with disabilities

1. Pre-Matric Scholarship

• For students in Class IX and X.
• ₹800/month (hostellers), ₹500/month (day scholars).
• Additional ₹4,000/year for visual/intellectual disabilities.
• ₹1,000/year book allowance.

2. Post-Matric Scholarship

• For Class XI to PG level (excluding certain professional courses).
• Tuition fee reimbursement up to ₹1.4 lakh/year.
• ₹1,200/month (hostellers), ₹650/month (day scholars).
• ₹4,000/year for visual/intellectual disabilities.
• ₹1,500/year book allowance.

3. Top Class Education Scholarship

• For UG/PG in notified premier institutions.
• Tuition fee reimbursement up to ₹1.9 lakh/year.
• ₹45,000 one-time for laptop.
• ₹30,000 one-time for assistive devices.
• ₹3,000/month (hostellers), ₹1,500/month (day scholars).
• ₹2,000/month special allowance.

4. National Overseas Scholarship

• For Master’s/PhD abroad.
• Covers tuition, living expenses, travel, and disability-related allowances.
• 30% slots reserved for female candidates.

5. National Fellowship (NFPwD)

• For M.Phil/PhD in Indian universities.
• ₹37,000/month (JRF), ₹42,000/month (SRF).
• Contingency grants, HRA, and reader/escort allowance included.
• Selection via UGC-NET/CSIR-NET.

6. Free Coaching

• For competitive exams (Group A/B/C jobs, NEET, JEE, etc.).
• Coaching fee and stipend support.
• 30% slots reserved for female candidates.

How to Apply for Scholarships for Students with Disabilities 2025-26

The application process for Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, and Top Class Education Scholarships is fully online and managed through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:

Step 1: Visit the National Scholarship Portal

• Go to NSP : National Scholarship Portal
• One Time Registration(OTR) if applying for the first time.
• Use your Aadhaar number for authentication.

Step 2: Fill Out the Online Application

• Log in using your credentials.
• Select the appropriate scholarship scheme (Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, or Top Class).
• Fill in personal, academic, and bank details carefully.

Step 3: Upload Required Documents

Ensure you upload clear, legible copies of the following:

• Recent passport-size photograph
• Proof of age (birth certificate or school record)
• Valid disability certificate (40% or more)
• Income certificate of parent/guardian
• Tuition fee receipt
• Last academic qualification certificate
• Aadhaar card or enrollment slip

Step 4: Institutional Verification

• Your educational institution must be registered on the NSP.
• The institution will verify your application and documents online.

Step 5: State Nodal Officer Verification

• The State Nodal Officer will review and digitally sign the verified applications.
• If you’re studying in a different state from your permanent residence, your home state’s Education/Welfare Department must recommend your application.

Step 6: Selection Process

• Selection is based on:
  • Percentage of disability (minimum 40%)
  • Age (older candidates preferred in case of tie)
• Slots are distributed state-wise based on the percentage of eligible applications and the state’s disabled population.

Step 7: Scholarship Disbursal

• Scholarships are disbursed directly to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
